Great idea, poor attention to detail. |
I have the black Age of Empires II special edition. Not that Im into AOE2 - I just wanted a black one to go with my Dell laptop. The installation was smooth, and the optical sensor works well - it tracks smoothly over most surfaces except for glass. It also has a bright red glow, that makes it a rather smart looking piece of kit. The reason I have only given it three stars is because the buttons are awful. It takes a lot of pressure to click them, especially at the end (where the end of your finger sits). I also have a white MS wheel mouse (non-optical) that doesnt suffer from this problem - so I suppose its a manufacturing fault. Another minor annoyance is that it needs an adaptor (USB to PS/2 which is supplied) to connect to the mouse port - this makes the connector stick out a long way at the back of the PC. Im sticking with it for the moment, but for any more than light use I would have to replace it - Im just hoping it will be back in black before then!

Does exactly what its supposed to |
Brilliant product. Being a laptop user this is a great product for myself because I never need to find a hard surface. It works fine on carpets, wood, books, and is even usable when im in bed and use the duvet cover as a mouse mat! It just wont work on transparent surfaces such as glass - but who cares? The symmetrical design makes it ideal for both left and right handers. The mouse wheel is smooth and runs well. It also comes with all the drivers required (although on windows XP it can just be plugged in and used straight away - not to sure about other windows editions though). Its a very nice size and the glowing logo on the mouse is a nice finishing touch. I cant comment on its life expectancy because ive only had it a few days, however, the fact that it hasnt got mouse ball and moving parts, means that it should last a long time because there are no parts to clog up. Works on standard USB 1.0 ports and 2.0. Also comes with a PS/2 port connection adapter for people without spare USB ports. All in all, a brilliant device, that really does work as well as Microsoft say it does. 5 stars.

this mouse is actually very nice. It is suitablle for both left and right-handed people as it is perfectly symmetric. The installation was problem-free and the supplied software includes some useful utilities to personalise the feeling of the mouse. The size is ideal for a comfortable grip and the design is plain; I prefer mice with only two main buttons and a scroll wheel as that is all you need (except for gamers, maybe) and you dont press wrong button accidently. The cable is quite long and the pointing is precise (same for the scroll wheel) and seems to work on a variety of surfaces. The only criticism is that the two buttons seem slightly loose such that they make a rather distinct click-noise and can be pushed aside slightly. If you drop the mouse from 5cm height, the right-click menu easily pops up. But that point is not too bad and the mouse is very good value for money.
